      Dr. Dowling, a highly regarded psychiatrist in the Cincinnati area, focuses on maximizing time with his patients, taking time to truly understand their stories, offering them hope and possibility.

      Prior to joining the staff at the Lindner Center of HOPE, Dr. Dowling contributed to the local field of psychiatry from a variety of venues. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Third Year Residency and Curriculum Coordinator for the University of Cincinnati Department of Psychiatry. He continues to serve as the Consulting Psychiatrist for Xavier University Mental Health Services and as Medical Director for Resident Psychotherapy Clinic, a clinic he helped to create. He served on the Medical Staff for Central Clinic, a community mental health agency. He continues to be involved in community psychiatry by providing the majority of psychopharmacological supervision to the third year psychiatric residents.  Additionally, Dr. Dowling was a partner in a well respected psychiatry private practice group, the East Hollister Group.

      His outpatient work focuses on psychotherapy, with a strong interest in psychodynamic modalities, and psychopharmacologic management of adults with a wide range of mood, anxiety, psychotic, substance abuse, and personality disorders. He has a particular interest in combined psychotherapy and medication treatment for young adults with mood, anxiety spectrum, primary thought, and personality disorders.  He enjoys treating and working with a diverse patient population.

      He also serves on several committees including Residency Training Committee, Residency Curriculum Committee and Residency Executive Committee. He is a current member of the American Psychiatric Association.

      Dr. Dowling has also participated in research, serving as a Clinical Research Assistant in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He has co-authored a piece on Pregabalin Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder which has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology.

      Dr. Dowling’s honors include being named 2005 Laughlin Award Winner for Excellence in Psychiatry and 2001 Psychiatry Student Excellence Award from the University of Cincinnati Department of Psychiatry
