A licensed psychologist, Dr. Jewell has spent more than a decade focused on neuropsychology, initially from a research perspective then shifting to clinical practice. Most recently, Dr. Jewell served as clinical neuropsychologist for the Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute at Kettering Medical Center, where he provided outpatient neuropsychology evaluations, inpatient neuropsychology consultation to the rehabilitation medicine program, and consulting on research initiatives within the Neuroscience Institute.
Dr. Jewell also served as an assistant professor for the Department of Psychiatry at the Boonshoft School of Medicine, Wright State University, and as consulting clinical neuropsychologist at Lifecare Hospitals of Dayton.
Dr. Jewell has extensive experience in the evaluation of memory and cognitive problems in adolescents, adults, and seniors due to learning and attentional disorders, mental illness, stroke, seizures, brain tumors, and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, anoxia, and traumatic brain injury. He has experience in the pre-surgical neuropsychological and psychological evaluation of candidates for deep brain stimulation, organ transplantation, surgery for intractable seizures, bariatric surgery, and implantation of a spinal column stimulator for chronic pain. He is also available for forensic neuropsychology consultation and independent medical evaluation (IME).
Dr. Jewell is an investigator in a multi-center study evaluating neuroimaging to detect early Alzheimer’s disease and reviews research manuscripts for several neuropsychology journals. He is a published author and has received numerous academic honors and awards. His research has investigated the effects of stroke, dementia, and late life depression on cognitive functioning. Dr. Jewell’s research has appeared in such professional journals as the Journal of the International Neuropsychology Society, Neuropsychologia, and the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience.
His professional affiliations include Division 40 (Neuropsychology) of the American Psychological Association, the International Neuropsychological Society, the National Academy of Neuropsychology, and the Ohio Psychological Association.
