Dr. Kennedy has authored papers in leading scientific journals and given presentations in both forensics and psychiatry. His work has appeared in Current Psychiatry, the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine, the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and the Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, among others. Before his tenure as vice chair at the University of Cincinnati, he served as Director of Forensic Services at Summit Behavioral Healthcare and chaired the risk assessment committee of the Ohio Department of Mental Health Forensic Product Line. He is a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.

He has received awards including the Best Teacher in a Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Award from the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (2002); the Rochester Psychiatric Center’s Forensic Psychiatry Service Award (2000); The Henry A. and Amelia T. Nasrallah Psychiatry Excellence Award (1997); the Pfizer Psychiatry Residents of the Year Award (1996); The Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry Teaching Excellence Award (1995); The Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry Award (1993); and The Ohio State University Ohio Mental Health Award (1993).
